Yoga + the creative heart

The 2nd Annual Yoga and the Creative Heart Retreat in San Luis Obispo is on the books for October 6-8, 2017. The photo above is from the 2016 retreat and shows the Saturday night jam session led by Kaleo, which ultimately turned into a rock n roll dance party (with wine) until the wee hours...

This was such a beautiful group of people who shared their hearts and bared their souls with each other. It's so inspiring to see the transformation that happens from day one to the moment we said goodbye. There were connections made, friendships formed, tears shed, so much laughter, and heaps of love. We are so grateful to have shared space with such amazing beings.

This year we are heading back to the lovely Sagrada Wellness Center:

Join Melanie and Kaleo on a weekend getaway free from distractions and filled with inspiration! Yoga helps us to remember our true selves and writing gives us a container to express it.
Daily yoga classes for all levels; Creative writing and journaling workshops; Delicious vegetarian meals paired with local wine;
Musical jam session – no experience necessary.
Free time for hiking, writing, exploring, or relaxing by the pool.

We have a few repeat retreaters coming back this year, and space is limited to 10-12 guests to keep it intimate. Email us at love@rebelandmuse.com for more info or to reserve your spot.

Soul Mission

The Universe is constantly providing us with messages and opportunities to know if we are on the right path. Whether that means in a relationship, in a career or job, or just literally, on the right path when going somewhere. It knows that we have a Soul Mission even before we do, and guides us gently (and... sometimes not so gently) in that direction. We just need to tune in and become aware of the signs, the signals, and listen to our intuition.

We will be guided if we allow it.

Sometimes those signs can come in the form of numbers. Kaleo and I are big on numerology and angel numbers. Of course, we each make a wish on 11:11 no matter what time zone one of us is in, but it's also fun to tune in to what other numbers are consistent and reoccurring in life.

Kaleo: I have always been followed by the number 4. Throughout my life it has been everywhere with me, on my travels, reminding me that I'm in the right place at the right time. And when I see it, or when it is shown to me, a feeling of love and protection resonates throughout my being. I know that it may seem a little out there to some, but I think everyone could use something like this in their life. It could be a number, a word, a symbol. Whatever it may be, it should be able to help you remember that there is a whole universe on your side cheering you on everywhere you go reminding you of the amazing blessing of being alive.

Melanie: My number has always been 24. I don't have any profound reason for it. Simply, I've always just liked it. Though interestingly enough, two of my closest soul loves have the number 4 as their number. So perhaps even before I knew them in this lifetime, I knew there would be 2 4's, or... '24'. I mean... Mind. Blown. :o)

So since today is 4/24, we've decided to make it the first Rebel & Muse Day! We've looked up what the significance behind 424 is, and this is what we found:

Angel Number 424 is a message that the angels are helping to keep your faith and resolve strong and your thoughts positive and optimistic. You have a lot of work to do and your angels encourage you to put your efforts towards serving your Soul Mission. Give any fears and/or anxieties to the angels for healing and ask for guidance whenever you feel the need. Know that your angels encourage your success and happiness and support you along your path.

Angel Number 424 brings a message to consider all of your options and weigh up what is truly important to you, and what is not. Do not waste your time and efforts on activities or people that do not support you or bring you joy, but rather, choose to spend your time doing things and spending your time and efforts on things (and people) that suit your true self and that resonate with you on an inner-level.

Angel Number 424 may also be implying that if you are considering beginning or expanding a spiritually-based career or practice, or service-based venture or project, you may need to put in some hard work and dedication, but you will find long-term rewards and benefits for yourself and for those whom you serve. Trust your intuition and you will know which path to take.

WOW. Truly an amazing explanation of what today is offering us! Let today, 4/24, be a day of thinking positively, working hard toward our goals, and spending time on what brings us joy and resonates with us on our Soul Mission.

Goodbye Bodhi

Last year on my birthday. Piggie belly rubs are the best.

Last year on my birthday. Piggie belly rubs are the best.

Today we found out that our beloved Bodhi from the Gentle Barn passed away. He was only 10 years old, but after being raised for food and most likely due to growth hormones, his big sweet heart was finally failing him. So Ellie Lakks, the Earth angel that founded the GB, helped him to transition out of his body. He was such a gentle soul, and loved belly rubs and all the attention he would get from the Sunday visitors.
He was rescued when he found the amazing courage to jump out of a truck that was taking him and others to slaughter. My eyes are teary as a write this, but I'm also so happy that he was one of the lucky ones that got to spend the rest of his short life being so loved, so spoiled, so respected by humans. As it should be. We wish you so much peace, big guy.

Sweet Zeus. I could have snuggled with him all day.

Kaleo took me to the Gentle Barn for my birthday last year and we became yearly members. It's a beautiful organization that we continue to support. If you want to give back to animals by virtually adopting one, buying some hay, or even cuddling and giving them some hugs in either California or Tennessee, please check them out

Maintaining consistency

The Inconsistency of my environment when touring or playing festivals keeps me looking for opportunities and locations to practice that which IS consistent in my everyday life.

My routine at home is something I always take with me. However, the changing landscape on the road at times calls for some creative solutions..

Yoga in the back of a semi trailer at a festival,
Using the scaffolding of a giant stage to hang the TRX,
Meditating in the back lounge of a bus before anyone wakes up.
Wym Hof breath exercises in the green room before show.
Reikiing myself (and the airplane) when taking off.
(I learned that from Mel)

I love the ever changing landscape.
I embrace it, and it gets me excited.
I don't know HOW it will happen, I just know it WILL happen.

If I want it to.

And if I don't see a way or a place
or I can't figure out where to do my thing,
then I take the day off and recover...
and get excited about the next opportunity tomorrow gives me.
While enjoying the present moment to relax.

But sometimes, like today... 21 stories above Curitiba...  the universe makes it really easy for me.

Kaleo

Mel's note: WOW. I have to admit I'm a little jealous at this gorgeous spot he found to do yoga in their hotel. I'm thinking maybe a yoga retreat there someday..?? Anyone??

Finding Balance

Hello Rebels!
Kaleo and I just posted our new workshop: Yoga To Go up on the Yoga Oceanside website. Having a consistent yoga practice is a huge part of our life, and we like to take our practice with us wherever we travel.

As I type this, Kaleo is doing his practice in a hotel room in Sao Paulo, Brasil, overlooking the city. He Face-timed me this morning to show me his view, and it is amazing... (see above photo)
But realistically, we don't always end up doing yoga in a beautiful hotel room with wood floors and a view of the city. Haha, nope.

Once, I was stuck in a dirty hotel that an airline put me up in, in a random city because my connecting flight was cancelled. The carpet was some kind of shag (?), and questionable to say the least. It smelled like stale cigarette smoke from the 90's, and had a super creepy vibe. When I was checking in, even the flight attendants that were put up there were considering leaving, but it was already midnight. Put it this way, I slept on towels laid out over the bed sheets. All I wanted to do was order room service (no room service, duh), get a big ass bottle of wine (no stores around), and watch a movie (no movies. maybe 5 channels?) And besides, there was no way I was touching the remote without putting a shower cap on it.
That's a trick I learned from a flight attendant friend...

So I pulled up my big girl pants and did some yoga. Of course I didn't want my mat touching the carpet so I laid out yet another towel and put my mat over it. I had to call downstairs for more towels and they said that housekeeping was closed so I had to go down and get them. Okay, I sound like a huge germaphobe, but I'm really not, at all. It was just that shady.

So I got into my zone. I only did a few sun salutations and some simple poses. But it felt amazing. It changed my whole perspective from, "Poor me, flight was cancelled, no wine, dirty room, blah, blah.." to complete gratitude and peace. I slept like a baby on those towels, let me tell you. :o)

The important thing here is to find some consistency while traveling. It can even just be a few minutes out of your day, and those few minutes will offer a significant shift in energy.

Our workshop will be held on May 20th, and will incorporate ways to bring in movement, meditation, and routine to your travels. We will go through two sequences, one relaxing and one energizing, and give you tips on finding balance while on the road!

Hope to see you there!
Register on our Workshops Page.

Peace,
Melanie

Take a breath...

The amount of action that happens in life can sometimes can be overwhelming.

I recorded last night in Oceanside with Through the Roots and Micah Brown. We finished just in time for me to catch the 10pm train to LA Union. I arrived at LAX hotel at 1am, and hopped the morning flight to Panama for a quick bite before landing ultimately in Buenos Aires.

In the speed of it all, I forgot my journal. But as I finally relaxed into my seat on the plane and took a deep breath for the first time in hours... I noticed the Universe, once again, provided me with everything I need.

A pen. A breath. Some paper.

So if you find this barf bag on your next flight....

Take a breath.

Peace... Kaleo
